Presenting scholarships during the recent Awards Day for Seniors at Philip Barbour High School is Past Chamber President Mike Cvechko of Cvechko Insurance. Each scholarship is worth $500 over and above any other financial assistance the students receive.
Gracie Miller, a resident of Belington, is the daughter of Lisa and Patrick Miller. She is a member of the National Honor Society, was Secretary of her class, and played soccer for all four years at Philip Barbour. She also lettered in track and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She is currently employed at Hometown Pizza in Belington.
Miller plans to attend Fairmont State University where she will major in Exercise Management. She is a member of the Faithway Baptist Church.
Also from Belington is Senior Cody Garrison Cooper, son of Brian and Tonya Cooper. Cooper was the Senior Male Athlete of the Year at Philip Barbour, graduated Summa Cum Laude, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was Second Team All-Conference in baseball and Honorable Mention of All State. He also played Second Team All-Region soccer in 2020 and 2021.
Cooper plays Elkins Post 29 Baseball and is a Door Greeter at the Rivers of Living Waters Church, where he is a member of their Youth Group. He plans to attend West Virginia Tech where he will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering and play baseball for the Tech team.
