Heart and Hand House and the Garden Market are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month in August.

Ron Wilson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from West Virginia University and has 35 years teaching experience in the public schools plus 5 years’ service as a Market Manager.  The Community Garden Market at 107 South Main Street in Philippi offers local fruits, vegetables, meats, baked goods and crafts, and has a daily luncheon special.  Everything is produced by local people and helps our economy grow,” he says.

The new Director of Heart and Hand House has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and a Master’s Degree in Special Education.  She also attended Potomac State College and, for the past eight years, has been employed by the West Virginia University Extension Office as an Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent in Tucker County.  She has also been a substitute teacher.

“We provide assistance to low-income families through various ministry programs,” she says.  “Qualifying individuals have access to our food pantry, baby pantry, layette program, clothing vouchers, weekly school backpack program, summer feeding programs, and receive other monetary assistance.  Our Heart and Hand Thrift Stores and Market Place are also under our umbrella”.
