Alderson Broaddus University Campus

Alderson Broaddus University (ABU) is situated on a 170-acre campus atop a hill overlooking historic Philippi and the surrounding Tygart River Valley.  The private, faith-based institution has its roots in the Broaddus College of the 1870s and is built on the site of the first land battle of the American Civil War. Each year, approximately 1100 students make ABU their educational preference, and there is little question as to why:

  • Students can receive training in the school that pioneered the first four-year physician’s Assistant training program which influenced the development of the Physician’s Assistant program on a national scale.  In addition to the four-year P.A. program, ABU also offers a P.A. Master’s level degree program.  Its four-year nursing and its radiologic technology programs were the first of their kind in the state of West Virginia.
  • Students can study a wide range of programs in the fields of business and management, professional education, music, the humanities and social sciences, and science, technology and math.  Career counselors assist students with choosing their course of study, resume/interview preparation, internships and job shadowing, graduate school applications, job searches and career exploration.
  • ABU offers special support for students with disabilities and general academic assistance to all students who have academic needs.
  • Students can participate in highly-competitive intercollegiate sports as well as intramural, recreational sports activities.  The intercollegiate men’s basketball team alone has won ten titles in the past thirteen years and participated in an NCAA championship game.  The athletics program enjoys the use of a modern arena complex as well as a state-of-the-art multi-level stadium.
  • Financing a student’s four-year liberal arts education is made possible with grants, scholarships, work opportunities, and low-interest student loans, making ABU affordable for everyone.

It’s no wonder the Exponent Telegram named Alderson Broaddus University the “Success Story of the Year”.  ABU is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in Chicago.
